Mud Australia
Mud Australia, started by Shelley Simpson in 1994, is a privately owned porcelain manufacturer based in Sydney, Australia. Simpson, who has little training in ceramics, began making it as a hobby for friends and family. She noticed there was a lack of tableware that was both functional and beautiful and started Mud Australia with the aspiration to fill this hole in the market. Today, Mud Australia?s porcelain range is all handmade by both professional and amateur ceramicists, using the best materials available to ensure longevity. The pigment is tinted in the porcelain at the slip stage to provide depth of color. Clear glaze is then applied to the interior of each piece leaving the exterior with a coarse stone-like surface that becomes smooth with handling and use. The end result is a quality product with a minimalist aesthetic that is oven, microwave, dishwasher, and food safe. Mud Australia is recognized for its unique blend of color, materials, process and design. Each unique product is handmade with subtle differences from piece to piece, offering a soulful alternative to mass produced and highly manufactured ceramic design. |
